Savior of Mothers
Savior of Mothers
Ignaz Semmelweis (1818–1865) was a Hungarian physician known as the "Savior of Mothers" and a pioneer of anti-septic procedures.
Key Achievement: He discovered that childbed fever (puerperal fever) could be drastically reduced if doctors disinfected their hands with a chlorinated lime solution before examining patients.
Impact: By introducing mandatory handwashing in the Vienna General Hospital, he reduced maternal mortality from over 18% to less than 2%.
Legacy: Despite initial rejection by the medical community, he is recognized today as a pioneer in hygiene and infection control.
I donated this painting to the Flór Ferenc Hospital in Pest County. The painting can be seen in the Semmelweis Room of the hospital.
I think of the staff at the Flór Ferenc Hospital in Pest County with love and gratitude. This painting is a modest gift to thank them for their work.
